Creating art with Children from the Townships.

Pieces for Paws Art Workshops not only help create pieces of art for the auction, but they also bring children together, inspiring them to be artistic and teaching them how to be creative with the help of local artists.

Workshop with Richard Scott Studio Melkbosstrand- 9/02/2019

G.I.L spent an incredible day spent at the home and studio of Richard Scott. Richard and Angelique were kind enough to help us organize an afternoon with the children from Wolwerivier and Khayelitsha Townships to create some art in preparation for our Pieces for Paws charity art auction on the 16th March at Atlantic Beach Country Club. The founder of Wolwerivier Outreach Work - The WOW Project Kerry Kleinhans rounded up the kids who help her on her daily rounds of feeding and treating sick and injured dogs in the township and brought them to Richards Studio for a day full of laughter and creativity. Lisa from Mdzananda Animal Clinic arranged for 3 of the most talented children from our previous workshop in Khayelitsha Township to attend this event and further their artistic development with the guidance of an internationally recognized artist. Richard not only made it an extremely fun experience but also taught them the value of hard work and what you can achieve if you do not give up and pursue your dreams. We we're lucky enough to have Expresso Morning Show - SABC 3 come and cover this event and interview all of us for their show. Thank you Chris, Jessica and Grace Henderson for your support at all of our events. Richards one of a kind Art Piece made with the children will be up for auction at our fundraiser event.

Seal Island Day Trip 26/01/2019

As a Thank you to the children of Khayelitsha for their contribution to the auction and With the help of Circe Launches we were able to organise a day trip to Seal Island in Hour Bay. It was a great opportunity to teach the children about the ocean, plastic pollution and how it can harm animals such as Seals, Whales, Turtles and all other living sea creatures. The children had a wonderful time and we hope they left with some valuable knowledge which we hope will inspire them to look after their environment.

Thank you Juliet Thelander for all your hard work in organising this event, Lisa and Bongiwe for helping us with the children, Jurgen Dunhofen for volunteering your time and accompanying us on the outing, Jason Thelander at Pick n Pay Brackenfell family store and MerryPak for sponsoring the food and packaging for the children's lunch.
